The site has a rich history in it’s own right that when combined with the long history of Chepstow makes the site an important local landmark.

Artistic river tours along the Wye River, televised horse racing, the historic Chepstow Castle and the location as a market town controlling access over the river give the town a rich history.

National Shipyard No1 has a long and continuous history of manufacturing. Most recently it was steel works for bridge construction and during the war, a shipyard for boat repairs.

After a design competition, Mabey Group appointed a combined design team of Studio Egret West and Ash Sakula to evolve a framework for the site.

Our strategy offers a beautiful balance of creativity and pragmatism, big picture and more detailed thinking. Four urban grains are created - New Chepstow, Steelyard, Slipways and New Garden City - to help structure the character of the site and diversify the accommodation offered.
