Studio Egret West are rejuvenating the former Mayfield railway station into a memorable, mixed-use community in the heart of Manchester.

Our framework plan comprises a new 6-acre park in the heart of the city, approximately 1,300 homes, 75,000 sq m of office space, a 350-bedroom hotel, as well as retail and leisure facilities that will generate over 7,500 office, retail, leisure and construction jobs. It will reshape and extend the city towards Ardwick, building on the benefits of the Northern Hub rail expansion plans and acting as a catalyst for the regeneration of the wider Piccadilly area in anticipation of HS2.

Mayfield has a rich industrial heritage, from the Hoyles Calico printing and dying factory, one of the most famous textile factories in the 1800s, to the Mayfield relief station of the early 1900s.

Our framework retains these features and explores the historical narrative through the landscape of a proposed park. Opening the retained Mayfield Platform to the public, we envisage creating an elevated public space, inspired by the High-Line in New York, culminating in a truly layered post-industrial landscape that is unique to Manchester.

The scheme forms part of a joint venture with The Mayfield Partnership, comprising LCR, Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester, with leading regeneration specialist, U+I, acting as its development partner for the Mayfield Quarter in Manchester.
