Vision and Supplementary Planning Document

The Alton Estate sits on the southern end of London in the rolling greenery directly north of Richmond Park. It is surrounded by a remarkable set of historic towns and villages, among the most affluent communities in the UK: Roehampton, Richmond, Barnes and Mortlake. Despite being at a commuter distance from Central London, the lack of nearby decent transport infrastructure makes Alton inaccessible and isolated. Though geographically embedded in the distinctive Richmond area, it feels a world apart.

Our regeneration of this site emphasises ways of reconnecting the estate to its surroundings. Our vision includes strategic cycle routes that forge new connections to Richmond Park. By carefully upgrading the residential fabric we are responding to the Georgian landscape heritage of the site and have been in consultation with residents about the development of a revitalised park centre for the estate. We will also put in place measures to sensitively reshape the under-performing elements and areas of the estate by providing new retail and community facilities and an upgraded public realm and village green.
