The Quarry Named Regeneration Project of the Year

The Quarry, Erith has been named Regeneration Project of the Year at the London Construction Awards 2018.

Working with Anderson Group in partnership with L&Q, Studio Egret West have designed a new neighbourhood consisting of a new 3 form primary school, 650 homes, community facilities, retained ecological areas and newly provided open space.

Once a disused quarry used for landfill, the site was then abandoned, allowing nature and wildlife to take over – a quality we were keen to preserve. We wanted the countryside qualities of this site to come through, almost as if the buildings have grown from the topography of the site. We have kept to a vocabulary of stone gabion walls, and simple buff brick and stone to clad buildings, whilst a  new park aims to preserve the existing wildlife  and allows residents to enjoy a close relation to the natural environment.

SEW are the masterplanners, landscape architect, and the architect for phase 1 of the dwellings as well as the new primary school.
