Regenerating Roehampton

Wandsworth Council

Wandsworth Council have backed new planning guidance for the Alton area in Roehampton at a full council meeting.

Working alongside GVA, Studio Egret West prepared The Roehampton Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) which provides guidance on the level and type of development the council wants to see in this part of the borough. It sets out eight ‘core principles’ to gwidgetIDe regeneration, including building high quality housing, improving infrastructure, delivering a high quality landscape and improving access and connections. It also includes planning guidance for four ‘sub-areas’ to help shape the development of these spaces in more detail. The SPD is based on the Alton Area Masterplan, which has been developed by SEW over the last two years.

Cllr Ravi Govindia, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said: “This is an important moment for Roehampton. It means our ambitions to improve this housing estate are now enshrined in official planning guidance and we can move ahead with selecting a development partner to help us carry out these vital improvements. In the years ahead we aim to replace the most outdated housing on the Alton estate with high quality homes set around a much improved environment, a stronger local economy and with modern community facilities."
