Planning Awards

Our Preston Barracks project in Brighton has been shortlisted in 3 categories at this year’s Planning Awards: Award for Regeneration, Planning Permission of the Year, and the Award for Partnership Working. An ambitious place-making scheme, Preston Barracks will transform a brownfield site into a sustainable, employment-led community with new homes and a rejuvenated university campus.

Studio Egret West’s role also includes the detailed design of a 50,000sq ft Central Research Laboratory. Lying at the heart of the scheme, the CRL is an incubator centre and cutting-edge facility to support new, hi-tech and design-led manufacturing start-up companies and entrepreneurs. Site works have now begun and its completion is anticipated in 2019.

Preston Barracks is being delivered on behalf of a public private partnership of Brighton University, developers U+I and Brighton & Hove City. SEW are the lead consultant and masterplanner, working with HASSELL, TP Bennett and Stride Treglown.

Lucas Lawrence, Director at SEW, will be discussing Preston Barracks this Thursday, 15th March, as part of Constructing Excellence Sussex’s AGM and seminar titled - ‘Placemaking : The Link Between Good Design and Value’.
