New London Awards 2018

Caxton Works has been shortlisted for this year’s New London Awards, and will now appear in the NLA exhibition and publication showcasing the capital’s very best new architecture, planning and development as selected by an international jury.

Located on a formerly industrial site in Canning Town, Caxton Works combines dwellings with light industrial uses; 336 homes are arranged above light industrial spaces which are designed to attract businesses in need of affordable work space. The project embraces densification whilst creating an authentic identity that is a defined by the symbiosis of previously conflicting uses.

Hoy Street is reinstated as a ‘pedestrian first’ working alley where workshops have a strong positive presence. Low-rise buildings help to blend the massing with the contextual fabric, while four taller buildings address the need for new homes and express their presence with a distinctive scalloped skyline. The landscape strategy brings ecology into an industrial setting creating distinct, liveable places.

Caxton Works features in our current exhibition, (Re)Working London: An exhibition about living with industry. You can find out more about the project and the exhibition in our short film: https://vimeo.com/273478551
